Why the future needs Actuaries
By Allard Kampschöer (Lemonade), Inge Lodder (Elavv) and Umut Can (UvA)

The Congress will conclude with a panel discussion about the future of the actuarial profession. The main idea of the discussion is that with every wave of innovation, Dutch actuaries tend to worry about their future. In this panel, we will approach this from the opposite perspective and focus on why the future needs actuaries. The panel consists of Inge Lodder, who will focus on data science innovations and how these can be brought to the market, including the advantages of actuaries compared to “pure” data scientists; Allard Kampschöer, who will focus on modern insurance and smart innovations for clients, including which processes can be made redundant and where actuaries remain indispensable; and Umut Can, who will focus on education, where the discussion will address whether new actuaries are prepared for the future, whether the current programme follows recent innovations, and whether there are future plans to innovate further. Students will interview the panel members with prepared critical questions. The audience will also be able to submit additional questions during the session.
